Casey knew what she wanted in her next home: affordability and value. She bought her first home at the age of 20 and rents it now. She has a 9-5 (more like 8 – 6?!) and understands that owning a Real Estate long term, builds wealth. 

Through our home shopping, Casey described her experiences and core memories of renovating her first home. Adventures of scrapping popcorn ceilings and then wallpaper (surprise!) from her 1st home in Nebraska.  I could tell that she is excited to undertake some new projects and I loved that. 

Take Advantage of Local Resources

Shortly after selecting her home in Tacoma, Casey came across the Tacoma Tool Library. An incredible resource for new Homeowners in Tacoma who are looking for tools that don’t make sense to buy for just one use. When she’s refinishing her hardwood floors for example, the 6’ level will come in handy! 

Having Clarity on Your Budget is the First Step

In looking back at the process of finding Casey’s home, I appreciated that she was so clear on what mattered most: her budget. 

Casey wanted a home that had great value. It needed to be livable (purchasing with a loan) but she was willing to get her hands dirty. 

Where Does the Hidden Opportunity Lie in Tacoma?

The zoning changes in Tacoma have made way for future development opportunities that weren’t previously there. Although she’s not interested or financially prepared to build anything on her property (yet!) We know that some properties have a higher probability of land appreciation than others. She purchased one of those properties AND we stayed within budget. 

The Math is Mathing

Casey’s monthly mortgage is about $2,500 which includes, taxes and insurance). She put less than 5% down and has the security of knowing her landlord can’t boot her or raise rents. She’s excited to get to know her neighbors, build community and she is here to stay.  🏡
