What makes your business different? Why did you start? Facts about you or your business?

I started this business out of a passion for handmade tile.  After working many years as a full service kitchen & bath designer, I wanted to focus on my 2 favorite things – tile and cabinetry.  Fresh out of design school, I started in this industry selling tile over 25 years ago and have built relationships along the way. Those relationships have helped me develop the vendor list we currently have today at Cupboard & Clay.  After relocating to Tacoma from Seattle, I realized quickly what the South Sound was missing with design offerings for our industry. Finding the location in Old Town and conceptualizing the showroom helped me create the name “Cupboard & Clay” which is the old name of origin for cabinets and tile.

Fun Facts: The majority of our tile offerings are small artisan factories in the USA and we are an all women owned and operated business!

What is the lesser known about your business that you wish more people knew?

We want our customers and future customers to know that with purchase, we can provide Autocad drawing layouts of your tile or cabinetry. Also, in addition to backsplashes, we have options for bathrooms, sunrooms, laundry room, fountains, pools, exterior applications, entry halls, etc. Basically, If it doesn’t move, tile it!
